Ukraine has publicly disclosed two distinct interceptor-drone efforts against Russia’s jet-powered Geran systems: an unnamed interceptor used by the Security Service of Ukraine, or SBU, and Wild Hornets’ Sting S. The SBU has released footage and reported a result without naming its system; Wild Hornets says its Sting S has downed about 10 Geran-4 drones and several Geran-5s in combat trials. The available public evidence does not establish that the systems are related, or independently verify the full Sting S count.

**KYIV, Ukraine —** Ukrainian manufacturer Wild Hornets says its new **Sting S** interceptor drone has destroyed about 10 Russian jet-powered Geran-4 uncrewed aerial vehicles and several Geran-5 systems during active combat testing. The company has not released technical specifications, a production schedule, or underlying engagement data for the new model.[1](https://x.com/wilendhornets/status/2101304449289363650 "Wild Hornets: STING S takes down a Geran-5 jet-powered drone-missile") [2](https://militarnyi.com/uk/news/perehoplyuvach-sting-s-znyshhyv-geran-4/ "Militarnyi: Sting S interceptor destroys about a dozen Geran-4s and several Geran-5s")

The reported totals are company claims. Militarnyi and Defender Media each reported the figures after speaking with Wild Hornets, while Business Insider said a company spokesperson described roughly a dozen Geran-4 and several Geran-5 interceptions. None of the reports provides a complete engagement log, independent battle-damage assessment, or an official Ukrainian tally that could verify every claimed interception.[2](https://militarnyi.com/uk/news/perehoplyuvach-sting-s-znyshhyv-geran-4/ "Militarnyi: Sting S interceptor destroys about a dozen Geran-4s and several Geran-5s") [3](https://thedefender.media/en/2026/09/sting-s-wild-hornets/ "Defender Media: Wild Hornets’ new Sting S interceptor drone has downed about 10 jet-powered Gerans") [4](https://www.businessinsider.com/new-ukrainian-interceptors-downing-fastest-russian-jet-powered-drones-2026-9 "Business Insider: Ukraine's growing fleet of new high-speed interceptors is downing Russia's fastest attack drones")

Wild Hornets published a short video Sept. 19 that it said showed a Sting S operated by the 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment bringing down a Geran-5. That post supports an attributed claim of at least one engagement. It does not by itself substantiate the broader number of Geran-4 and Geran-5 intercepts.[1](https://x.com/wilendhornets/status/2101304449289363650 "Wild Hornets: STING S takes down a Geran-5 jet-powered drone-missile")

The company says Sting S is a high-speed quadcopter interceptor derived from its earlier Sting platform and designed for jet-powered targets. It says many of the trial targets were engaged through its Hornet Vision Ctrl remote-control technology, which it believes could help scale operations after mass production and deliveries begin. Those are stated plans, not a production award or a confirmed fielding schedule.[2](https://militarnyi.com/uk/news/perehoplyuvach-sting-s-znyshhyv-geran-4/ "Militarnyi: Sting S interceptor destroys about a dozen Geran-4s and several Geran-5s") [3](https://thedefender.media/en/2026/09/sting-s-wild-hornets/ "Defender Media: Wild Hornets’ new Sting S interceptor drone has downed about 10 jet-powered Gerans")

Wild Hornets’ public product page gives performance figures for the original Sting—rather than Sting S—including a maximum speed of 280 kilometers per hour and a claimed 80% to 90% typical hit rate, depending on the military unit. The company does not identify Sting S on that product page. Those baseline-model specifications and performance claims therefore should not be attributed to the newer Sting S.[5](https://wildhornets.com/en/sting-interceptor "Wild Hornets: Ukrainian FPV Interceptor STING")

The Sting S disclosure is separate from a Sept. 19 statement by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about a new interceptor developed for the Security Service of Ukraine, or SBU. Zelenskyy said the SBU’s military counterintelligence had achieved a “good result” against jet-powered Shahed-type drones and that the interceptor was already deployed. The announcement and accompanying video did not name the system, its manufacturer, its technical specifications, or the number of targets engaged.[6](https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/2101269436787290312 "Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Security Service military-counterintelligence result against jet-powered Shaheds")

Reporting on the SBU disclosure described a different aircraft configuration: a delta-wing interceptor. Business Insider noted that the SBU system visibly differs from the quadcopter-style Sting family. Ukrainian authorities have not publicly linked the SBU interceptor to Wild Hornets, Sting S, F-Drones’ Litavr, or other named projects. Treating the SBU result and Wild Hornets’ trial claims as evidence about one system would therefore be unsupported.[4](https://www.businessinsider.com/new-ukrainian-interceptors-downing-fastest-russian-jet-powered-drones-2026-9 "Business Insider: Ukraine's growing fleet of new high-speed interceptors is downing Russia's fastest attack drones") [7](https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2026/09/19/8054224/ "Ukrainska Pravda: Zelenskyy unveils new interceptor drone for jet-powered Shahed drones") [8](https://en.defence-ua.com/news/ukraines_new_interceptor_drone_successfully_used_against_russian_jet_powered_shaheds_video-19836.html "Defense Express: Ukraine's new interceptor drone successfully used against Russian jet-powered Shaheds")

Russia’s jet-powered Geran variants have increased the pressure on Ukraine’s air defenses. Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate lists the Geran-5 with a stated cruise speed of 450 to 600 kilometers per hour and a 90-kilogram warhead, based on its assessment of recovered components. Those published specifications help explain the demand for faster interceptors, but they do not establish the cost, exchange ratio, reliability, or operational effectiveness of Sting S or the unnamed SBU system.[9](https://war-sanctions.gur.gov.ua/en/page-geran-5 "Defense Intelligence of Ukraine: Geran-5 UAV")

The public record now supports a narrower conclusion: Ukraine is testing and disclosing multiple approaches to intercepting faster one-way attack drones. Wild Hornets has released footage and claimed a set of Sting S combat results, while the SBU has separately reported an unnamed interceptor result. Neither disclosure provides sufficient evidence to conclude that interceptor drones can already defeat the full jet-powered Geran threat reliably, economically, or at the scale required for air defense.
