Army names 30 xTech Apex Intercept finalists for fall low-cost interceptor demonstrations

The U.S. Army’s xTech|Apex Intercept competition has named 30 finalists for fall demonstrations of low-cost air- and missile-defense technologies. Selection is not a production contract, and the competition’s potential follow-on pathways do not guarantee an award.1

WASHINGTON — The Army FUZE xTech Program and Capability Program Executive Defensive Fires are running the competition to identify low-cost interceptor all-up rounds and fire control, solid rocket motors, seekers, and flight-control and guidance technologies for air and missile defense.1 2

The official finalist page identifies: Advanced Navigation; AEON Industries; AeroVironment; AirX Robotics; Anduril Industries; Cambridge Aerospace; Cherrill Consulting Group; DefendTex; DRS Network & Imaging Systems; Expression Networks; Furientis; General Dynamics OTS; Greenjets; GuideTech; Hyperian Aerospace; L3Harris Technologies; Northrop Grumman Systems; NYX Industries; Persistent Systems; QinetiQ; Rocket Fast Drones; RTX; Sensitic Technologies; Space ER; Technology Service Corporation; Toyon Research; UDD Tech; Ursa Major Technologies; Wardstone; and X-Bow Systems.1

Each finalist is eligible for a $25,000 cash prize and is scheduled to demonstrate its technology to Army and Department of War experts between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30. The program lists up to $8 million in total cash prizes, including $7.25 million for up to 18 final winners across four topic areas.1 2

The competition permits subsequent engagement through several statutory acquisition pathways, but any later agreement or contract would require a separate government action. The Army explicitly says finalists may be considered for potential follow-on opportunities; it does not say that finalist selection itself awards a procurement contract.1

Eligibility extends to qualifying U.S. and allied-country businesses that can obtain a CAGE or NCAGE code and meet the program’s other restrictions. The Army’s July launch announcement said the effort was intended to broaden participation beyond traditional defence contractors as it seeks more scalable and affordable interceptor capacity.1 2
